Welcome to photos of Barcelona

Barcelona is one of those magical cities which never ceases to amaze me. Barcelona is a photographer's delight as it's a city that is full of surprises and enchantment. Barcelona is the capital of Catalonia and it's in the north east of Spain on the costa brava. Of all the tourist destinations in Europe, Barcelona has got to rank among the most popular.  The city has a rich history, offers magnificent architecture, maintains old and new customs, and allows visitors the chance to dine on some of the world’s finest food.  Known as being a privileged city, Barcelona was not always a peaceful place though.

Barcelona and the Spanish Civil war of 1936

Spanish Civil War broke out in 1936 and although the city of Barcelona lived through a number of challenging periods, this was by far the most difficult period it ever faced.

During the post-war period after the war ceased in 1939, the city was left in a sad state of disrepair and much restoration work needed to be done on both industry and economy arenas.  This was the time when General Franco's dictatorship started and consequently eliminated many of the people from Barcelona's rights and freedoms but after his death in 1975, major improvements took place. Seventeen years after the dictator's death, Barcelona would become the host of the 1992 Olympic Games and ever since then, the city has been put back in the spotlight for tourism from all over the earth.

Barcelona today and its culture

The light around this area will be of interest to photographers both new and experienced. El Born, this is one of my favourite areas of the city and a part that embraces both traditional and bohemian influences, a must see. Las Ramblas – this long street or rambla offers people on foot the chance to enjoy all types of interesting things such as La Boquería market, the Liceo theatre, churches, restaurants and many street vendors selling flowers and animals. Another thing to see here are the
